Animals have served Australia at war since before Australia even existed as a nation! Whether it be in the heat of battle, providing companionship, enabling communication and transport, or saving lives, animals have served alongside Australian personnel from the Boer War to Afghanistan. Horses, pigeons, camels, dogs – as well as cats, donkeys, monkeys and even elephants! – animals have served us well during times of war.
